Residents of the Maltepe TOKİ housing complex in Istanbul are facing a severe transportation crisis. Approximately 4,100 people living across seven stages of the development report being cut off from public transit.

Despite a decision by the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has not granted operating permits to minibuses, nor has it directed bus services to the area. This lack of service has persisted since housing deliveries began in February.

The demographic in the area includes a high proportion of veterans, relatives of martyrs, the elderly, patients, and students. Due to the steep topography of the neighborhood, residents must walk between 35 and 40 minutes to reach the nearest transit stops, often in extreme heat or late at night.

Local minibus operators claim they have prepared their vehicles and covered necessary expenses, including insurance and taxes, but remain unable to operate due to the delayed approval process. Residents have expressed concerns regarding safety and accessibility, particularly for those with health issues or limited mobility.
