Maltese Cross wins Great Voltigeur Stakes at York

Maltese Cross, trained by William Haggas and ridden by Tom Marquand, secured victory in the Group Two Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. Despite carrying a 5lb penalty following a win in the Grand Prix de Paris, the Sea The Stars colt won by two lengths, reversing form with the Derby runner-up, Christmas Day.

Haggas noted that the performance was likely a career-best and indicated that future plans, including a potential run in the St Leger, remain undecided. The victory establishes Maltese Cross as a short-priced favourite for the St Leger.

The Ebor meeting at York also features several other notable runners, including Sun Goddess in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes and various selections for the day's handicap and Group 1 races, such as the Yorkshire Oaks.
