Malvern Theatres presents Graham Greene’s Our Man in Havana

Malvern Theatres is hosting a production of Graham Greene’s espionage comedy, ‘Our Man in Havana’, at the Festival Theatre. The play follows James Wormold, a struggling vacuum cleaner salesman in pre-revolutionary Cuba who is recruited by the British Secret Service. To secure funds for his daughter, Wormold fabricates a network of spies and provides bogus intelligence reports, leading to a situation where his inventions begin to clash with reality.

The production features Jack Ashton in the lead role of James, portraying a character that evolves from naive and enthusiastic to anxious and emotional. A small ensemble of actors, including Leon Ockenden, Bob Barrett, and Jodie Steele, performs multiple roles, utilizing quick costume and character changes. The set design by Julie Godfrey utilizes carved stone arches, wooden shutters, and traditional music to evoke the atmosphere of Havana.
