Mam Cherno Jallow appointed GIABA Director-General

Mam Cherno Jallow, a Gambian financial economist, has been appointed Director-General of the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA). His four-year term was approved by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during a session held in Sierra Leone in July 2026.

Jallow officially assumed his duties on August 31, 2026, following a handover ceremony in Dakar, succeeding Liberian Edwin W. Harris Jr. He brings over 35 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including 16 years within the ECOWAS institutional system. Prior to this appointment, Jallow served as the Acting Director of Administration and Finance at GIABA.

His professional background includes roles such as Head of Strategic Planning and Resource Mobilization at GIABA and Director General of the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI). He holds an MBA in Banking and Finance from CESAG in Dakar and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the International Islamic University in Malaysia.
