Mamá Tingó receives Japanese donation for fire and rescue equipment

The Embassy of Japan in the Dominican Republic and the Mamá Tingó Municipal District have signed a donation agreement valued at US$74,519 (approximately RD$4.4 million) to enhance local firefighting and emergency response capabilities.

Under the Japanese government’s Non-Reimbursable Economic Assistance for Community Projects program, the funds will be used to import a used fire truck and specialized rescue equipment from Japan. The initiative aims to address current limitations faced by the local fire department, which currently relies on a deteriorating vehicle and lacks adequate protective gear and tools.

The agreement was signed on September 2 by ITO Hikaru, Chargé d’Affaires representing the Japanese government, and José Dolores Trinidad Doñé, the district director for Mamá Tingó. This cooperation is intended to strengthen community safety and reinforce the ties between Japan and the Dominican Republic.
