During an exceptional Council of Ministers meeting on October 13, 2026, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye addressed urgent national issues, primarily focusing on flood management and sanitation policy. Following recent heavy rains and flooding in several localities, the President ordered a rapid technical audit of the governance of sanitation systems and directed the Prime Minister to update urban and municipal sanitation master plans.

To improve disaster preparedness, the President mandated the finalization and validation of the National Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Management Strategy by the end of November 2026, alongside a review of the National Flood Prevention and Management Strategy. He also called for a reflection on establishing a National Sanitation Fund.

Additionally, the government is prioritizing public health, with a directive to update the National Cancer Control Plan 2025-2029 by December 31, 2026, and to prioritize enrollment for underprivileged patients through the Universal Health Coverage Agency.
