Mamaia: Man drowns in rough seas despite lifeguard warnings

A 56-year-old man died after drowning in the Mamaia Nord area of the Romanian coast. The incident occurred around 12:10 PM during conditions of rough seas and strong currents. Despite warnings from lifeguards regarding the dangerous swimming conditions, the man entered the water.

Lifeguards and bystanders attempted to pull the man from the sea, and medical teams from SMURD and the Constanța County Ambulance Service performed resuscitation efforts for over 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. Police have opened a criminal case for manslaughter to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy.

In other coastal areas such as Eforie, conditions remained hazardous with waves exceeding 1.5 meters and red flags flown to prohibit swimming. Lifeguards reported having to call for assistance from the gendarmerie to remove tourists, including children, from the water after warnings were ignored.
