Turkish cities launch major urban green space upgrades

Municipal authorities across Turkey are renovating key public spaces with extensive landscaping and green‑area projects. In Konya, Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay inspected new drought‑resistant plantings at the Esbaş intersection as part of a volunteer firefighting program and broader rural development efforts. Diyarbakır completed a drought‑tolerant redesign of the Selahattin Eyyubi and Fırat Boulevards junction, installing thousands of shrubs, trees and geotextile mats to conserve water.

Eskişehir’s Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce visited the under‑construction Gündoğdu Park, a centerpiece of a phased urban renewal scheme that adds playgrounds, walking paths and a green corridor linking the neighborhood to the Ankara‑Eskişehir highway. In İzmir, the ESBAŞ junction in Gaziemir was transformed with roughly 4,000 plants, water‑saving species and decorative stonework, creating a colorful, sustainable streetscape.

Ankara’s Mamak district began the foundation work for a 7,000‑square‑metre social‑cultural complex that will house a cemevi, soup kitchen, library, senior centre and youth facilities, with the ceremony attended by New Party leader Özgür Özel. Finally, Adıyaman’s Trafik Park, damaged in the February earthquakes, was restored with new green areas, modern landscaping and upgraded irrigation, providing a safe, modern recreation space for residents.
