Mamata Banerjee confronts TMC split over Abhishek Banerjee

Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee publicly accused party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee of arrogance and misbehaviour, saying he was excluded from a court petition related to the Diamond Harbour signature‑forgery case. He warned he could quit if Mamata Banerjee could not run the party without her nephew, urging her to choose between him and Abhishek.

In response, Abhishek Banerjee met with senior party leaders at Mamata Banerjee’s residence and offered a peace overture, acknowledging Kalyan’s right to criticism and seeking to defuse growing factionalism within the TMC. The internal dispute follows a poor performance in the recent West Bengal assembly elections and has sparked broader unrest among party legislators.
