Mamata Banerjee leads opposition push to remove CEC Gyanesh Kumar
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sougata Roy has stated that Mamata Banerjee is leading an initiative to unite opposition parties to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The move follows controversies surrounding the Election Commission of India (ECI) and issues related to the Special Inquiry Report (SIR).
Roy noted that the Congress party has called an all-party meeting for September 30 to discuss these matters, with several opposition groups expected to attend. The TMC MP also raised concerns regarding the voter list, alleging that approximately 9 million names have been removed, a move that has sparked nationwide debate.
Additionally, Roy commented on the interim bail granted by the Calcutta High Court to Congress candidate Milan Pradhan in the Nandigram by-election, expressing hope that the relief would allow for continued election campaigning.
