Mamata Banerjee reinstates Kalyan Banerjee as Trinamool chief whip

On 14 May 2024, Trinamool Congress supremo and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee appointed four‑time Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee from Sripur as the party’s Lok Sabha chief whip. Banerjee had resigned from the position nine months earlier, after which Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was named chief whip. The reappointment restores Banerjee to his former role.

During the meeting, Banerjee praised Kalyan Banerjee’s work as a senior advocate handling West Bengal Special Investigation Review cases in the Supreme Court. She also urged party MPs not to be discouraged by the recent state assembly election defeat and to intensify grassroots outreach in their constituencies.
