Mamata Banerjee slams BJP over Netaji row as TMC grandnephew quits

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of insulting the legacy of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In a Facebook Live address she said, "It is an insult not only to Bengal but to the whole country," and called for public protests, alleging that BJP leaders have harassed TMC workers and Gen‑Z activists.

The controversy began after West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya described the Forward Bloc, founded by Netaji, as "goons". The BJP rejected the charge, saying the debate is about political differences, not an attack on the historic figure.

At the same time, Chandra Kumar Bose – Netaji’s grandnephew and a former TMC member who had previously been with the BJP – submitted his resignation from the Trinamool Congress, citing personal reasons. His departure adds another high‑profile shift in the state’s volatile political landscape.
