Mamata Banerjee targeted in alleged attack at Kolkata residence

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has alleged that an attempt was made to attack former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with a knife in front of her Kalighat residence on Tuesday evening. TMC General Secretary Dola Sen reported that a woman, identified by police as 38-year-old Anusuya Saha, approached Banerjee while she was leaving her home.

According to TMC allegations, the woman, who reportedly claimed to be a civic volunteer and a relative of Banerjee, used abusive language and attempted to charge at the former Chief Minister. Party spokespersons suggested the woman appeared to be under the influence of drugs and raised concerns regarding the security of a Z-plus protected individual.

Kolkata Police have detained the woman and characterized the incident as a ‘quarrel’ or ‘altercation’ rather than a knife attack, though they have not provided detailed confirmation regarding the recovery of a weapon. The TMC has expressed serious concerns over the security breach and the conduct of police officers present at the scene.
