Mambilla Plateau curfew imposed after fatal clashes

Authorities in Taraba State have imposed a 24-hour curfew across the Mbamga, Mbara, and Geroji communities in the Sardauna Local Government Area following violent clashes on the Mambilla Plateau. The unrest, which reportedly began on Saturday following a fatal dispute between a cattle herder and a farmer, has resulted in multiple deaths, including at least five individuals and security personnel.

The violence led to the destruction of homes and livestock, causing widespread panic. Security agencies have been deployed to the affected areas to maintain order and prevent retaliatory attacks. The Mambilla Plateau is a significant economic region for Nigeria, known for livestock and the production of tea and coffee; the ongoing instability threatens local agricultural productivity and supply chains.

Local residents have expressed concerns regarding the effectiveness of security forces stationed in the area. The curfew aims to restrict movement and contain the unrest while authorities work to restore calm and protect lives and property.
