South African football: Sundowns, Pirates, and Chiefs headline league action
South African football action continues in the Betway Premiership and following the MTN8 final. Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning MTN8 champions, aim to extend their league lead as they prepare to face Richards Bay. Goalkeeper Ricardo Goss noted that while Richards Bay is a young and energetic side, Sundowns' experience should prevail.
Orlando Pirates are set to host TS Galaxy at the Orlando Amstel Arena. Following their recent MTN8 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is expected to rotate his squad, with potential changes at full-back and in the midfield. Ouaddou also praised defender Lebone Seema, highlighting his professionalism and growth as a high-level player.
In other league action, Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw at FNB Stadium. Sinoxolo Kwayiba opened the scoring for Stellenbosch, but Mduduzi Shabalala equalized for Chiefs. Ahead of the match, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz expressed uncertainty regarding his team's ability to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates for the title, despite satisfaction with the team's tactical adaptation.
