Mammina horror film tops US and Italian box offices

The horror film ‘Mammina’, produced by Universal and Blumhouse, has achieved significant commercial success in both the United States and Italy. Starring Jessica Chastain in a dual role, the film is based on the novel by Josh Malerman and directed by Rob Savage.

In the US, the film topped the box office for the weekend of October 9-11, 2026, earning $27.5 million from a debut in 3,365 cinemas. This brought its international earnings to $45.19 million against an $18 million production budget. Despite receiving a negative CinemaScore of D+, the film has benefited from positive word-of-mouth.

In Italy, ‘Mammina’ also reached the top of the box office, earning €1,982,148 during its opening weekend. This performance marks the best debut for a horror film in 2026 in the Italian market, surpassing previous hits like ‘Backrooms’ and ‘Resident Evil’. The film’s narrative follows a young girl named Bela who encounters a demonic entity that takes on the appearance of her mother.
