Mammootty and Adoor Gopalakrishnan reunite for ‘Padayaatra’

Actor Mammootty and filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan have reunited for the film ‘Padayaatra’ after a 32-year hiatus. The trailer for the upcoming project was recently unveiled at the Sharjah Expo Centre during the ‘Rajakeeyam – Celebrate with Legends’ event in the UAE.

In the film, Mammootty portrays Dr. Devadas, a medical professional whose journey leads him into tribal communities. The narrative explores themes of poverty, social inequality, exploitation, and moral conflict, centered around the character's commitment to Gandhian ideals. The trailer suggests a socially conscious rural drama involving complex elements such as a Maoist attack and legal investigations.

This marks the fourth collaboration between the actor and director, following landmark films like ‘Anantaram’, ‘Mathilukal’, and ‘Vidheyan’. The screenplay was co-written by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and IAS officer KV Mohan Kumar. Production for the film has concluded, though an official release date has not yet been announced.
