Mamoudzou organizes natural risk awareness event
To observe National Resilience Day on October 13, 2026, the city of Mamoudzou is organizing an afternoon dedicated to natural risk awareness in M’tsapéré. The event aims to educate residents, students, and institutional partners on flood prevention, specifically regarding the Majimbini River watershed.
The program includes a resilience village at the halle des pêches featuring information stands from the French Red Cross (PIROI), the City of Mamoudzou (Communal Safeguard Plan), CADEMA (Majimbini Flood Prevention Action Program), and DEALM (Risk Prevention Plan). Additionally, a guided awareness hike will take place along the Majimbini River to help develop a culture of risk and strengthen collective territorial resilience.
Local authorities noted that rapid urbanization and soil impermeability have increased runoff and flooding risks in the area, necessitating enhanced preventive information for the population.
