Mamprugu Youth Association demands probe into Binduri killings

The Binduri chapter of the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) is calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the death of Issaka Shaban, also known as ‘Culture’, and broader security concerns in the Binduri and Bawku regions.

During a press conference in Bolgatanga, MAYA challenged the Ghana Police Service’s account of Mr. Shaban’s death. While police stated he died from multiple gunshot wounds and that an AK-47 was recovered from a suspect, MAYA claims eyewitnesses report he was taken from his home at dawn on September 3, 2026, moved to the Binduri Primary School area, and shot in the legs by a military operations team.

The association is demanding the publication of forensic and ballistic reports to clarify the circumstances. MAYA also expressed concerns regarding perceived bias by military personnel deployed at Bazua against Mamprusi communities and urged security agencies to stop relying on unverified social media claims to guide operations.

Citing a six-year period of instability that began when violence spread to Binduri in 2021, the group reported burned homes and deserted communities, such as Gumyoko. They have appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Upper East Regional Security Council, and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to intervene and ensure professionalism, fairness, and accountability.
