Man 39 seriously injured in knife attack by group in Torre del Greco, Italy

A 39‑year‑old man, identified as a local coral merchant, was stabbed multiple times in an early‑morning attack in Torre del Greco, near Naples. The assault, which began around 04:00 in the vicinity of a bar on Via Roma and continued onto Via Vittorio Veneto, involved a group of youths who surrounded the victim after a dispute that escalated from bottle‑throwing. Investigators say the victim received between 12 and 17 stab wounds, including injuries to his throat, lung (requiring a chest drain) and a tendon.

The man was taken to the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, where he remains in critical but stable condition after undergoing delicate surgery. Police have reviewed CCTV footage and gathered witness statements to identify the participants and are continuing their investigation. The violent episode has sparked community concern over youth‑related aggression, prompting calls for increased security and preventative measures in the area, amid a broader rise in similar incidents across Italian cities.
