Man arrested after arson kills 19‑year‑old friend in Corrientes, Argentina

Police detained a 50‑year‑old man accused of intentionally setting fire to his former partner's house in San Roque, Corrientes Province. The blaze claimed the life of 19‑year‑old Aimará Carolina Falcón, a friend of the homeowner's daughter, who was found trapped beneath a wardrobe after the flames spread. The victim had stayed overnight to watch the Argentina national‑team match. Firefighters extinguished the fire and recovered the victim’s body; investigators say the suspect used a fuel‑filled container to start the blaze. He had previously attempted to attack the residence with a bottle of gasoline, prompting a court order to keep him at least 200 metres away, which he allegedly ignored.

The suspect remains in police custody while the case proceeds through the local judicial system. Authorities are investigating the motive and confirming all charges related to homicide and arson.
