Man arrested after assaulting partner and resisting police in Itanhaém, Brazil

On the night of Monday, 3 May, neighbors in the Guapurá district of Itanhaém heard cries for help from a residence. Police from the 29th Battalion responded after 190 calls reported a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers found the woman being held by her partner, who grabbed her neck to prevent her from seeking assistance. The suspect assaulted the victim, resisted the police, and used abusive language. Officers intervened, placed the man under arrest, and he was taken to the local police station.

The victim presented visible injuries consistent with physical assault and strangulation marks. The arrested man was charged with bodily injury in a domestic‑violence context, threat, contempt, and resistance. He remains in custody pending a custody hearing.
