Vergiate: Man arrested for killing Colombian partner with knife

Marco Panichi, 53, has been detained following the killing of his 36-year-old partner, Grey Noralba Sanmartin Villalba, in Vergiate, Lombardy. The victim, a Colombian national, was found dead in their rented apartment in the Cuirone district with numerous stab wounds to her neck and body.

After the incident on October 22, Panichi drove approximately 700 kilometers to his hometown of Avezzano in Abruzzo, where he surrendered to Carabinieri. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the killing, though his legal counsel claims he acted in self-defense after the victim allegedly attacked him with a knife first. Panichi sustained several injuries to his arm during the struggle.

The investigation is being coordinated by the Prosecutors of Busto Arsizio and Avezzano. The victim's body has been transferred to Pavia for an autopsy to clarify the exact dynamics of the crime.
