Man Arrested After Fraud Targeting Elderly Woman and High‑Speed Chase on Italy's A14

Police in Italy disrupted a telephone fraud in which a caller pretended to be a Carabinieri officer, convincing an elderly woman in Fano to hand over cash and jewelry worth about €40,000. The victim reported the scam and provided surveillance footage showing the perpetrator leaving with the stolen items in a backpack.

A joint operation by Carabinieri and the Highway Police intercepted the suspect’s vehicle near the A14 toll gate at Porto San Giorgio. Ignoring police warnings, the driver accelerated, broke the toll barrier, and continued onto the Adriatic road, colliding with an oncoming car before finally stopping in a field near Grottammare. The suspect was arrested on the spot, ending the dangerous chase.

Investigators confirmed that the fraud involved impersonating law‑enforcement officials to lure the victim into handing over valuables, and the arrest prevents further losses for the community.
