Man arrested after pregnant woman doused in petrol in Lavington

A 27-year-old man, Brandon Smith, has been arrested following an incident in Lavington where a heavily pregnant 24-year-old woman was doused in petrol. The incident occurred at a Mutsch Street property around 12:50 am on Thursday, August 13.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to a hospital in Wodonga. Smith was apprehended approximately six hours later at a fast food restaurant on Victoria Cross Parade in Wodonga with the assistance of Victoria Police.

Smith faces multiple charges, including throwing or laying down an explosive with intent to maim or cause grievous bodily harm, destroying property with intent to endanger life, and dangerous driving. While police sought to return him to New South Wales to face court, he is currently being held in a hospital in Victoria. Detectives are also seeking a protection order for the victim.
