Man arrested for arson and attempted femicide in Monza

A 50-year-old man has been arrested in Carate Brianza, in the province of Monza, following a premeditated arson attack on the home of his former partner. According to investigators, the man used flammable liquid to set the apartment on fire after an argument, targeting his ex-partner and her new companion.

The 42-year-old woman sustained severe second and third-degree burns over large areas of her body and was admitted to intensive care at Niguarda Hospital in Milan. Her 36-year-old partner also suffered injuries. A 22-year-old neighbor was also treated for smoke inhalation.

The suspect, who had previously received a formal warning from the police chief for harassment against the woman, faces charges of arson, attempted femicide, and attempted murder. He was taken into custody by the Carabinieri and placed in prison following a court order.
