Man arrested for fatal shooting of estranged wife in Madera County

David Moreno, 51, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife, Brittney Harris, in a Madera County Denny’s parking lot. Authorities state the couple had been eating at the restaurant before Moreno allegedly opened fire on Harris multiple times and fled the scene in a white Toyota RAV4.

Court records indicate that Harris had an active restraining order against Moreno, which she had recently sought to modify to allow for child custody exchanges and his attendance at her father’s funeral. The most recent order filed in Merced County cited ongoing verbal, mental, and emotional abuse.

Moreno was apprehended by deputies following a traffic stop near Highway 41 in Fresno County approximately four hours after the incident. He is currently being held in Madera County on $1 million bail. Harris, a nurse assistant graduate and employee at Merced College, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
