Man arrested for hit and run in Joetsu

A 51-year-old unemployed man from Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture, has been arrested for driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident in Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture.

The incident occurred on October 23 around 9:23 PM. The suspect allegedly drove a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, causing a collision with an oncoming car in the Teramachi area of Joetsu. The collision resulted in injuries to a man in his 50s and a woman in her 20s, both of whom were traveling in the opposing vehicle.

According to police, the suspect failed to provide aid to the victims and left the scene without reporting the accident. Following a report from the victim, officers located the man in the Minamihonmachi district of Joetsu and subsequently placed him under arrest. The suspect is reportedly maintaining his silence during police questioning.
