Man arrested for impersonating Carabinieri to scam elderly woman

A 54-year-old man has been arrested for impersonating a Carabinieri officer to defraud an elderly woman in the Ossola region. The incident occurred in April when the suspect contacted the victim by phone, claiming he needed to verify her jewelry in connection to a local robbery.

Under this pretense, an accomplice visited the woman's home and collected 490 euros in cash and approximately 100 grams of jewelry. Following an investigation involving video surveillance and technical evidence, the Domodossola Carabinieri identified the suspect, who has a history of similar offenses in the provinces of Sondrio and Varese. The judge in Verbania has ordered him to be held in custody, and he has been transferred to a prison in Torino.
