Police crack down on theft and fraud rings in Canada and Japan

Law enforcement agencies in Canada and Japan have reported several significant criminal incidents involving theft and fraud.

In Toronto, police arrested eight individuals, including four adults and four youths, following an investigation into vehicle theft. During the operation, officers seized a loaded AR-15 rifle containing 27 rounds of ammunition, seven master keys, and two electronic programming devices used for vehicle theft. One suspect, Kevin Joao, faces multiple firearms and vehicle-related charges.

In Japan, several fraud and theft cases have been documented. In Hiroshima, a woman in her 70s was defrauded of approximately 130 million yen by scammers impersonating police officers who claimed her assets required investigation. In Akita, a woman in her 50s lost 1.1 million yen to an investment scam initiated via social media.

Additionally, police in Fukui arrested two suspects believed to be part of an anonymous crime group after they broke into a second-hand shop and stole 76 items, including 69 smartphones, valued at over 2.1 million yen. In Tokyo, a 52-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing from at least 16 unlocked vehicles in the Kita ward, causing damages totaling 1.2 million yen.
