Man arrested in Brazil for using AI-generated weapon photo to threaten ex-partner

A man was arrested in Rio Verde, Goiás, after using artificial intelligence to create a manipulated image intended to threaten his former partner and her father. The suspect sent a single-view WhatsApp photo showing himself inside a vehicle holding a black pistol.

The victim identified the man by physical characteristics, specifically a tattoo on his left forearm, and reported the incident to the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam). Following an investigation, police located the suspect at a residential condominium.

While no actual firearm was found during searches of his home or vehicle, the man confessed to sending the image. He admitted to using AI tools to forge the photo to simulate being armed and to intimidate the victim. He has been charged with threats within the context of domestic and family violence.
