Man arrested in Guatemala for attempting to use counterfeit money

A man was taken into police custody in the municipality of Ayutla, San Marcos, after attempting to purchase ice cream using counterfeit banknotes. The National Civil Police (PNC) seized 2,790 quetzales in various denominations during the arrest. The individual reportedly has a criminal record for money counterfeiting and extortion.

In a broader report of police activity over the last 24 hours, the PNC confirmed 92 arrests across the country. Other recent operations included the arrest of a suspect for femicide and attempted homicide in Petén, an arrest for extortion in Chimaltenango, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Jutiapa.
