Man arrested in Ignacio on suspicion of murder
Blas Salazar, 59, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder following the discovery of his wife, 31-year-old Herberta Salazar, dead in an Ignacio, Colorado, residence.
Police discovered the body on the 600 block of Shoshone Drive during a wellness check on Saturday. The check was initiated after family members reported they had not heard from Herberta for several days and a neighbor noted her dogs had not been fed. Upon forced entry, officers found Herberta deceased inside the home.
According to an arrest affidavit, Blas Salazar had recent domestic violence charges involving his wife and was subject to an active restraining order. Law enforcement located Salazar early Sunday morning in La Plata County with suspected self-inflicted injuries. He was transported to Mercy Hospital for medical treatment following his arrest by the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation.
