Man Arrested in Kaohsiung After Stealing Gold Necklace Worth NT$450,000 Over Wage Dispute

A 40‑year‑old man identified only by his family name Jian was recruited by a friend, Hong, to collect unpaid wages of NT$30,000 owed to another man, Weng. Hong told Jian that if Weng refused payment, he could take the gold necklace Weng wore, valued at about NT$450,000, and split the proceeds. Jian travelled to Weng’s residence, claimed to be collecting the wages, then forcibly removed and broke the necklace, also taking Weng’s phone. He pawned the necklace for NT$150,000, intended to give NT$60,000 to Hong, but after losing contact with Hong he fled. Using a white‑label taxi and the high‑speed rail, he traveled from Taoyuan to Taichung and then to Kaohsiung, where police located him in a hotel and recovered NT$135,000 of the proceeds. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office has charged Jian with robbery.
