Man arrested in Paraná for suspected fraud and assault of Moroccan nationals
A Moroccan man has been preventively detained in Cornélio Procópio, Paraná, on suspicion of fraud, assault, and abandonment involving two Moroccan women. The Civil Police are investigating charges of fraud, bodily injury, and property damage.
The incident began online when the suspect met the victims via social media while they were staying in a shelter in São Paulo. Exploiting the fact that one woman’s tourist visa was expiring, the suspect promised to regularize their immigration status. He convinced the women and three children to move to Paraná, claiming it offered a better quality of life.
After arriving in Cornélio Procópio, the women paid for the promised documentation services. Following the payment, the suspect attempted to abandon the families at a local bus station. The crime was reported after one victim managed to escape from the vehicle during transit and contact the Military Police. The victim also reported that she and her son were physically assaulted by the suspect during the encounter.
