Man arrested in Queimadas, Brazil for fatal dog beating and fire

On 18 July 2026, a 53‑year‑old farmer was arrested in Queimadas, a town in the Agreste region of Paraíba state, Brazil, after being caught beating a dog and throwing the animal alive into a fire.

Neighbors reported that the man first tied the dog to a tree on 17 July, later struck it repeatedly with a piece of wood, and finally ignited a fire and tossed the dog into the flames, where it died. Police investigation led by Deputy Artur Andrade stated, “The individual began striking his own dog with a piece of wood and, not satisfied, continued the assaults until the dog could no longer walk. He set a fire and threw the still‑alive dog into the flames.” The suspect has prior convictions for threats, domestic violence and bodily injury and remains in custody awaiting a hearing.
