Man charged in June choking attack near Lake Arlington

Jeff Gaspard, 36, has been charged with two Class 3 felonies, including aggravated battery by strangulation and aggravated battery in a public way, following an attack on an 18-year-old woman in Arlington Heights.

The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on June 7 near Windsor Drive and Jonquil Circle. According to police, the victim was walking home when a man on a bicycle approached her, pushed her to the ground, and began choking her. The victim managed to fight off the attacker and fled to flag down a motorist, who then contacted emergency services.

Following a four-month investigation involving surveillance footage, a forensic composite sketch, and public tips, detectives identified Gaspard. He was taken into custody in a neighboring town and is currently being held in Cook County Jail.
