Man Charged in Montauro Arson Fire Near Campers

Italian Carabinieri have charged a 49‑year‑old local man with intentional arson after a pile of dry brush was set ablaze in the Calalunga area of Montauro, Calabria, on 30 June. Video surveillance showed the suspect arrive by car, walk to the brush, and ignite it, endangering nearby parked vehicles and a camper. Firefighters promptly extinguished the blaze. The investigation, conducted through site inspections, technical analysis and review of surveillance footage, led to the suspect’s identification and his indictment on charges of deliberate fire. The case remains in the preliminary investigation phase before the public prosecutor in Catanzaro.
