Man charged with murdering care centre resident in Tanjung Rambutan

A 51-year-old man, Soo Kim Keong, has been charged with the murder of a fellow resident at the Grace Home Care Centre in Tanjung Rambutan. The incident allegedly occurred between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM on September 3, following a misunderstanding between the two residents.

The victim, 28-year-old Chong Mun Long, was found unconscious and later died at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun on September 17. Post-mortem results indicated the cause of death was a lung infection and blunt-force trauma to the head.

During the proceedings at the Ipoh Magistrates’ Court, no plea was recorded from the accused. Due to concerns regarding his mental stability, Magistrate Norizan Riduan ordered Soo Kim Keong to undergo a psychiatric examination at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta. The case has been set for a mention on October 30 for the submission of the psychiatric report. If convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code, the accused faces the death penalty or imprisonment ranging from 30 to 40 years, along with caning.
