Man confesses to shooting merchant in Sines, Portugal

A 66-year-old retiree, Norberto Rodrigues, confessed at the Setúbal Court to the shooting death of 72-year-old merchant Florival Pereira. The incident occurred on August 19, 2025, in the parking lot of the Sines Market.

Rodrigues stated he acted out of a belief that Pereira had been involved in a long-term affair with his wife of 40 years. He claimed he was in a state of mental distress when he used a shotgun to shoot the victim. While the prosecution alleges the defendant waited for hours and intended to kill his wife as well, Rodrigues denied these specific claims, stating he intended to kill himself and only sought his wife to leave her house keys.

The shooting caused panic among customers and merchants at the market.
