North Iceland tourism awards and storm damage in Siglufjörður
In North Iceland, the tourism industry held its annual awards ceremony, recognizing key contributors to the region's development. Arctic Sea Tours from Dalvík was named Company of the Year 2026 for its commitment to year-round whale watching and service diversification. Elín S. Sigurðardóttir received an award for her long-standing service to tourism, specifically her leadership at the Home Industries Museum in Blönduós. Additionally, Daníel Hansen was honored with an Encouragement Award for his work developing the Svalbarð leadership center in Þistilfjörður.
Separately, the municipality of Fjallabyggð experienced a week of severe weather in Siglufjörður. Mayor Hafdís Huld reported significant storm damage, including several house roofs being blown off and corrugated iron sheets piercing building walls. Local rescue teams, police, and volunteers worked together to secure structures and manage the aftermath of the high winds.
