Man Convicted of Elderly Murder Arrested in Novo Aripuanã, Brazil

A 31‑year‑old man who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the 2015 latrocínio (robbery followed by murder) of an 85‑year‑old resident of Novo Aripuanã, Amazonas, was arrested on March 10, 2024. The victim was killed during a home invasion intended to steal his retirement money, with the perpetrators fleeing with roughly R$720.

Police located the convicted offender in the Portelinha neighbourhood and executed a warrant to take him into custody. Investigations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend the other participants in the crime, and the arrested individual will remain in custody pending the fulfillment of his sentence.
