Train services suspended near Rome after animals strike tracks

A regional train travelling between Fara Sabina and Monterotondo on the Orte‑Rome line struck a herd of large animals, prompting Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) to suspend traffic on the line. No passengers or crew were injured, but the train was diverted and the 450 travelers were transferred to another service, with a bus replacement operating between the two stations.

Around the same time, a passenger train near the Piana Bella station in Montelibretti derailed after colliding with two cows on the tracks. The derailment involved about 450 passengers, none of whom were hurt. Firefighters, railway staff and police secured the site and arranged a second train to transfer passengers safely. Both incidents led to temporary suspension of services and investigations by the railway authorities to identify the owners of the animals.
