Man donates 20 kg of gold to aid Noto Peninsula earthquake relief

An anonymous man in his 70s has donated 20 kg of gold, valued at approximately 330 million yen (54.6 billion VND), to support relief efforts in Japan. The donation consists of 20 one-kilogram bars that the donor reportedly accumulated over many years.

The decision to donate was motivated by the hardships faced by evacuees following the earthquake on the Noto Peninsula on January 1, 2024. Specifically, the donor aimed to improve sanitary conditions and living environments for elderly people and individuals with disabilities in evacuation centers.

Nara Prefecture authorities confirmed the donation was finalized in March. Mayor Masatake Matsui expressed gratitude, stating, “We sincerely thank you for this donation and will ensure it is used in a meaningful way.”
