MAN expands electric truck portfolio with new eTGX models

MAN Truck & Bus is expanding its electric heavy-duty vehicle portfolio, showcasing new generations of the eTGX electric tractor at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hannover. The new eTGX models aim to bridge the gap between technical readiness and market adoption by focusing on range and charging efficiency.

A 6x2 configuration equipped with seven batteries (644 kWh capacity) is projected to achieve a range of up to 720 km, while a 4x2 configuration with six batteries (552 kWh) offers approximately 660 km. Improvements include a 10% increase in usable energy density, a 20% increase in energy recovery, and a 3% overall efficiency gain compared to previous models.

To support long-haul operations, MAN is integrating the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), which allows for charging powers of up to 750 kW. Despite these technical advancements and MAN's significant investments in battery production and electric fleets, industry experts note that market growth remains slower than anticipated, largely due to the ongoing need for widespread charging infrastructure.
