Man faces incest and sexual assault charges in Canberra

A 39-year-old man appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court facing multiple charges, including incest, grooming, and aggravated common assault. The allegations involve the repeated sexual assault of a child, aged between nine and 11, at a Canberra home between 2018 and 2020.

Prosecutor Daniel Bamber described the alleged actions as “predatory behaviour against a very vulnerable person who was in his care.” The prosecution also noted that additional allegations are currently under investigation in New Zealand, suggesting the behavior may not have been isolated to a single victim.

Bail was denied by Chief Magistrate Louise Taylor after the defense argued the risk to the community was low because the victim now lives overseas. The court expressed concern regarding the accused's lack of a confirmed residence if released.
