Brazil police rescue captive woman; French tourist dies in Death Valley
In Brazil, police rescued 24-year-old Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho after she was found held captive in a property in Goiás. Authorities report she was found bound with chains, gagged, and restrained on a mattress. In the United States, a 68-year-old French tourist, Pierre Michel Formosa, died in Death Valley National Park after attempting to walk for help in extreme heat. Formosa and a companion had become stranded in the desert after their vehicle broke down near the Queen of Sheba Mine Road. Facing temperatures near 47 degrees Celsius (approximately 116 degrees Fahrenheit), Formosa collapsed after walking roughly two kilometers. While his companion eventually found assistance from another motorist, search teams located Formosa's body several kilometers away from the road.
