Man found dead in Valle Strona after disappearance in Cusio woods

Ernesto Quargentan, an 85-year-old resident of Malnate, was found dead in the Alpe Camasca area of the Cusio region on Wednesday, September 9. Quargentan had gone to his holiday home in Campello Monti, Valle Strona, and had set out for a walk to search for mushrooms earlier that morning.

After his family reported him missing in the late afternoon, a large-scale search operation was launched involving the Alpine Rescue of Omegna, firefighters, the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue (Sagf), and local police. Rescuers utilized Imsi Catcher technology provided by the Sagf to locate his mobile phone, which helped narrow the search area in the difficult mountain terrain.

His body was eventually discovered at the bottom of a cliff. The specific circumstances and cause of death are currently being investigated.
