Brazilian stadiums undergo pitch upgrades and maintenance
Several major Brazilian football stadiums are undergoing significant pitch renovations. Arena Mané Garrincha in Brasília has begun a complete replacement of its turf to prepare for the Copa do Brasil final, scheduled for December 6. The replanting process is expected to be completed by the second half of November to allow for proper root establishment.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Maracanã stadium management announced it will transition to a “Celebration Hybrid” grass type in late 2026 to improve field resistance and recovery. This decision follows criticism from players regarding pitch quality during the 2026 season and legal disputes involving Vasco da Gama. The installation is set to begin in December following the conclusion of the Campeonato Brasileiro, which will impact the scheduling of the traditional Jogo das Estrelas.
Additionally, Luton Town in England is progressing with the construction of Power Court, a new 25,000-capacity stadium intended to replace the historic Kenilworth Road. The project remains on track for an inauguration during the 2028/29 season.
