Mañón homicide trial begins in A Coruña

A trial has commenced at the Provincial Court of A Coruña involving a man accused of killing another man in Mañón in June 2020. The incident allegedly occurred in A Carreira after a dispute arose between the two individuals while the victim was traveling by vehicle.

The prosecution alleges that the accused struck the victim in the head with a stick found at the scene, causing fractures and hemorrhages that led to the victim's death in a hospital the following month. The Public Prosecutor has classified the act as homicide and is seeking an 11-year prison sentence along with compensation for the victim's family.

Private accusations have elevated the charge to murder, requesting a 25-year prison sentence. The defense is seeking acquittal, or alternatively, argues the incident should be classified as injuries combined with negligent homicide, requesting a sentence of nine months of imprisonment based on mitigating factors such as confession and damage reparation.
